A 200-level male student of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), Kwara State, has allegedly committed suicide due to financial difficulties.
The student, yet to be identified, was from the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences (CIS).
The incident reportedly occurred at his private residence in the Oke-Odo area of Tanke, Ilorin, the state capital.
Sources within the university revealed that the deceased took his own life due to financial struggles.
He had lost his father a few years ago, leaving his mother, a retired school teacher, to shoulder his academic expenses.
His financial difficulties began when he resumed school last year, prompting his colleagues to raise funds for his tuition and basic needs.
However, last weekend, after his roommate left for lectures, he allegedly consumed a poisonous substance, leaving behind a note explaining that he could no longer cope with his financial situation.
