Well-known Yoruba Nollywood actor and producer Afeez Owo, has talked about one of his most traumatic filmmaking experiences.

In an interview posted on Kunle Afod’s official YouTube channel, Owo talked about the rejection and financial hardships he encountered early in his career.

He claims that while he was producing a film in 1999, one of his darkest times occurred. He found himself in a tight spot when he ran out of money to pay the staff and performers halfway through the production.

Desperate for help, he went to Idumota, Lagos, to meet with some film marketers, hoping they would support him. However, to his disappointment, three different marketers turned him down.

“After meeting with three different marketers to help with the production they all rejected me. The worst part was that I didn’t even have money to return to the film location,” Owo revealed.

Heartbroken and lost in thought, he began trekking from Idumota to Ojuelegba. It was during this long walk that he had a life-changing experience.

“Suddenly, I heard a loud bang. Before I knew what had happened, a car had hit me,” he recounted. The driver and bystanders rushed to help and insisted on taking him to the hospital. However, Owo, still consumed by his financial struggles, asked them, “Do you have money to pay for my treatment if you take me there?”

At that moment, a kind stranger stepped in to assist him. In a surprising twist, the very movie that caused him so much hardship later became his breakthrough in the industry. “That movie brought me to the limelight,” he concluded.
