Popular Nigerian comedian Mr. Macaroni is back in the spotlight as he reaffirms his stance, insisting he still won’t greet Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu after a man recalled how he ignored the Lagos Governor in 2023.

The tension between Mr. Macaroni and Governor Sanwo-Olu dates back to the #EndSARS protests in 2020, during which Mr. Macaroni was an active participant.

In February 2021, he was arrested during the #OccupyLekkiTollgate protest and reportedly subjected to police brutality. This incident has been a pivotal factor in shaping his current disposition towards the governor.

In November 2021, Governor Sanwo-Olu extended an invitation to key #EndSARS figures, including Mr. Macaroni, to participate in a peace walk. Mr. Macaroni declined the invitation, urging the government to implement the findings of the panel that investigated the Lekki massacre instead.

Recently, Mr. Macaroni faced criticism on social media for not acknowledging Governor Sanwo-Olu. An X user recalled how he snubbed Gov. Sanwo-Olu in 2023.

The X user identfied as “Foundation Nupe Lawyer” said; “Someone saw the Governor and he thought publicly ignoring the governor was a good idea to publicly embarass him.”

Mr Macaroni took to Twitter to address the backlash, stating: “O ni jere! Olofo! Ko ni ragba fun e! Eleda mi a ba mi fi iya je e!!! O le ma je nisiyin, igba kugba ti yo je, Eleda mi a fi iya je e!!! The reason for this beautiful prayers I have sent to you is between us. I’ll leave it at that.”

Mr Macroni continues by saying that this is the last time he would address the matter, noting that he still won’t greet Sanwo-Olu when next they meet even if he calls he won’t answer.

He added; “This is the last time I will address this matter. It is not worth my peace of mind. Since you people won’t stop attacking me because I didn’t greet Governor Sanwoolu, next time I see him, I still won’t greet him. And this time, even if he calls me I won’t answer. You people will cry today, tomorrow and forever!
