Singer Asake in reports making the rounds online disclosed why he decided to put his song with Wizkid as the first track on his upcoming 3rd album dubbed “Lungu Boy”.

Yesterday, August 6th 2024, Asake, the “Remember” hitmaker got social media abuzz as he released the tracklist of his upcoming album where he featured 5 international artistes.

The Asake 14-tracked album featured Grammy Award-Winner Wizkid, US rapper Travis Scott, British rappers Stormzy and Central Cee as well as Brazillian singer, Ludmilla.

However, in the forthcoming 3rd studio album, Asake’s first song on the album cover is his track dubbed “MMS” featuring singer Wizkid.

Speaking on the reason, Asake said when he contacted Wizkid to be on his “Lungun Boy” album, he had already prepared $500,000 (N800M) to give the Grammy Award winner for a verse.

Asake said he was shocked by Wizkid’s response stressing that the “Essence” crooner rejected the N800M and decided to give him a free verse.

According to Asake, Wizkid told him that he would not be able to afford the amount he charges for a verse and he decided to do the song for him for free.

Asake speaks on how Wizkid advises him on career growth when they meet each other in the studio. The YBNL singer also speaks on how Wizkid showered encomium on his musical prowess.

Asake said; “When I contacted Wizkid to be on my album, I thought he would ask me for money, so I was already preparing $500k to offer him. When I finally texted him about the song, I was shocked by his reply. He told me, ‘Asake, if I ask you to pay me for a verse, you wouldn’t be able to afford it. We are all Naija, and I love what you are doing for Afrobeats. Anytime you are free, come meet me in the studio; let’s do something together. I can’t charge my own people for verses. It’s either I like the song and give you a free verse, or I don’t reply to you at all.’

The next thing I knew, I was in the studio with him, and he was advising me on how to push my career forward. I just had to put my song with him as the first track on my album because it felt like a dream come true.” ~ Asake reveals.”
