Late Nigerian Islamic singer Rukayat Gawat Oyefeso was laid to rest on September 24, shortly after her passing.
As previously reported by Hitgist, the news of her death was shared by preacher Alfa Aribidesi At-Tawdeeh Islamic Da’awah, based in Ilorin, through social media.
According to Punch Newspaper, the Solatul Janazzah (Islamic prayer for the dead) was conducted earlier for the late singer in Ojota, Lagos State, on Tuesday.
However, the final prayer and burial took place in Ijebu Aiyepe, Ogun State at noon and video capturing the funeral ceremony stirred emotions among social media users.
In the video, people mostly family and friends were seen surrounding the singer’s graveyard, mourning their loss.
Brother to the deceased, Jubril Gawat, who is a Senior Special Assistant on New Media to the Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu quoted a Quran verse on his X account on Tuesday morning.
His post read, “Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return.” Q 2 V 156.
