Nigerian activist and lawyer Deji Adeyanju has revealed that his attempt to secure bail for singer Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, from police custody was unsuccessful.
According to Hitgist, the singer was rearrested on the night of Tuesday, November 26, during a show in Owerri,
Imo State, over allegations of cyberstalking fellow artist Damini Ogulu, also known as Burna Boy.
Adeyanju announced the arrest on Wednesday morning via a post on his official X page, stating:”Our client Speed Darlington, a.k.a AKPI has been arrested by the Nigerian police in Owerri at his show upon return to Nigeria”.
In another tweet, Deji Adeyanju connected Speed Darlington’s rearrest to Burna Boy, criticizing the Grammy award-winning artist for his involvement. He wrote:
“Burna Boy behind harassment of Speed Darlington by the police. This is someone who has being singing against oppression and forming junior Fela now oppressing Akpi.”
In an update posted on his official Facebook and X pages on Wednesday night, Deji Adeyanju revealed that the police declined to grant Speed Darlington bail. He wrote;
“The Nigerian police brought our client Speed Darlington to Abuja from Owerri this evening and I just met him.
“They have refused to release him on bail over defamation of Burna Boy. Burna Boy, the Ojuelegba Fela sings about oppression but oppresses Akpi with the police.”

Reacting to the rearrest of Speed Darlington by the police aided by Burna Boy, VeryDarkMan in a new video shared on his official Instagram page today, November 28th 2024 shares his own take.
While VeryDarkMan supported Burna Boy’s decision to involve the police in Speed Darlington’s rearrest, the activist advised the Grammy Award winner to pursue the matter through the courts. He emphasized that legal proceedings would be more appropriate and would prevent accusations of using the police to target Speed Darlington.
Moving on, VeryDarkMan once again drags the living daylight out of music executive Paul O for criticizing Lawyer Deji Adeyanju over the ongoing case of Speed Darlington with Burna Boy.
In his words; “@pauloo2104 why don’t you respect yourself though? I’m really curious sir,this ain’t 2000s when una dey do cancel culture oooo,EVERYBODY GET HIM OWN CROWD OOOO(RATEL MOVEMENT) and speed Darlington and burnaboy.”
