The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has stated that it has not received any complaint or investigating the alleged disappearance of N180 million from the account of a non-governmental Organisation (NGO) founded by social media commentator Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan.
The FCT Police Command spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, reportedly told The Punch that the command is not investigating the case, despite the buzz it has generated online.
Adeh said, “The FCT Police Command is not aware of any case involving VDM’s missing funds and is not conducting any investigation into it. The individual in question should be contacted to clarify where the matter was reported, as there is no record of such a case with the FCT Police Command.”
VeryDarkMan has faced criticism after revealing that his NGO’s website was hacked, resulting in the theft of N180 million.
VDM, as he is also called, shared on TikTok that he is heading to Jos with a police officer to apprehend a suspect linked to the hacking and theft from his NGO’s website.
He said, “I’ve not been myself these past few days. Somebody hacked into the NGO website, and N180 million is missing. Thankfully, we’ve tracked the person, and one suspect has been arrested.”
“The account is now on PND (Post No Debit). There’s N20 million left, while N160 million was diverted. We’re heading to Jos to recover the money.”
Verydarkman also revealed that the NGO’s app was temporarily shut down for maintenance to prevent further breaches and assured followers that updates on the recovery efforts would follow.
