In a shocking display of alleged abuse of authority, a retired police inspector, identified as Linus Monday has been caught for reportedly conducting a “stop and search” operation
The former officer, who was identified through a police ID with number 6257, was reportedly seen wearing full police uniform despite no longer being in service.
The incident was first shared on Instagram has went viral on other social media plaforms and generated a lots of reactions with many users criticizing his actions.
While the location of the event was not specified, it was revealed that Linus Monday was paraded at a police division.
Some social media users expressed concern that such activities could not be carried out by one person alone, urging authorities to investigate possible accomplices.
A Facebook user, Lamidi Mutiu Olawale said; “Many Police officers have seen extortion as an integral part of the police job. It will be difficult to stop the act after retirement.”
Another user, Obidient Voice wrote; “Stop and search is already in his blood, he can’t leave the taste of juice they made on the road, Nigerian police is caused.”
Fada Mentor said; “He really needed it, just look at his eyes. Chai, this is just about hunger and nothing else. Police officers don’t have anything to fall back to after retirement especially those who were recruited. It is really painful 😔”
Seth Gomez wrote; “Nigerian government should release this man and pay this man his pension money and gratuity , or go to his house and set up business for him, pay his rent and bill 💵, this man is only trying to feed.”
Meanwhile, in another development, the Kaduna State Police Command has arrested a fake police officer in the state.
The suspect, Rabiu Sani, is said to have been involved in the illegal activity of impersonation for over 10 years before he was caught.
According to the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, Sani had allegedly been moving from court to court and visiting police divisions, claiming to be a law enforcement personnel.
He said his eventual arrest followed credible intelligence on his illegal activities in the state adding that he has been charged to court.
“The man has been parading himself as a policeman for over 10 years in the state. He mostly operated around courts until he was caught following intelligence received and a fake police ID card was recovered from him.
He said the command is intensifying efforts to identify and arrest other individuals impersonating police officers across the state.
“We are working hard to ensure that such criminals are brought to justice”, he assured.
During his parade at the police command headquarters, the suspect confessed to his crime.
He told journalists that although he loved police work, he had never participated in patrols or field operations.
“I know impersonation is a crime, I need forgiveness even though I did it because I loved the job. I only operated within court premises,” he admitted.
