In a shocking incident, federal lawmaker Prince Henry Odianosen Okojie, representing Esan North-East/Esan South-East in Edo State, narrowly survived an assassination attempt that rattled Uromi.
Okojie, married to Nollywood star Mercy Johnson, was reportedly ambushed by armed thugs suspected of having political motives ahead of the state election on Saturday, September 21st, 2024.
The attackers allegedly stormed his residence in a Lexus GX 470 with Rivers State plates in a daring move early Friday morning.
According to his media aide, Michael Ihaza, who briefed newsmen, the ruthless assailants appeared determined to execute their deadly plan. However, quick-thinking security personnel assigned to Okojie acted swiftly, successfully thwarting the assassination attempt.
Prince Okojie’s media aide’s statement reads;
“The armed thugs who disguised as police officers along with two others, invaded the residence of Hon. Okojie, claimed to be on appointment and proceeded to the seating room.
“Following the intervention of the security personnel attached to the lawmaker, two of the armed thugs fled leaving behind the driver and another who are currently being interrogated by officers from the Area Command of the Nigeria Police Force, Uromi.
“The suspects have so far made a confessional statement stating that they were sent on the mission by People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leaders in Esan North East Local Government Area,”
Photos of the chaotic scene from the assassination attempt have surfaced and quickly gone viral online. The images depict a tense atmosphere, with panic and shock visible on the faces of those present, underscoring the severity of the attack.
