A video making the rounds online has captured heartwarming moments people celebrate with joy and happiness following the release of popular Nigerian broadcaster, Oriyomi Hamzat.
Oriyomi Hamzat, the founder of the popular radio station Agidigbo FM, was granted bail today, January 13. Queen Naomi, the ex-wife of the Ooni of Ife, and Abdullahi Fasasi, the principal of Islamic High School, Bashorun, were also granted bail.
It can be recalled that the three defendants were being prosecuted over the tragic death of 35 children during a stampede at a Christmas funfair program on 18 December 2024 at Islamic High School, Orita Basorun, Ibadan.
On December 2024, Oriyomi and the two defendants were arraigned before an Iyaganku Magistrate’s Court on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, murder, manslaughter, and negligence. They were remanded at Agodi correctional center.
However, the counsel to the defendant subsequently filed an application for bail at the Oyo State High Court.
The court’s decision, which was met with jubilation from families and loved ones, comes with conditions. Each of the trio has been granted bail in the sum of 10 million naira, with two sureties who must have landed property in Ibadan. Additionally, they have been ordered to surrender their international passports and refrain from granting media interviews.
The video captured both young and old gathered at the State High Court, eagerly awaiting the hearing on the journalist and the other defendants. The moment the court granted them bail, the crowd erupted in joy, dancing excitedly and offering heartfelt gratitude to God.
