Popular Nigerian indigenous rapper Olamide has previously acted in a Yoruba Nollywood movie, ‘Osun Funke’, sparking widespread reactions online.
Olamide is one of Nigeria’s most influential artists, known for his role in the rise of street pop as a mainstream music genre.
He records in both Yoruba and English and has contributed to the success of many Afrobeats stars. Olamide debuted with his album Rapsodi in 2011 under Coded Tunes, and later released his second album, YBNL, under his music label, YBNL Nation.
This album featured hit singles like “First of All” and “Voice of the Street.” His third album, Baddest Guy Ever Liveth, came out in 2013 with popular tracks like “Durosoke.” In the same year, he became the first Nigerian to sign an endorsement deal with Cîroc.
In November 2023, Olamide earned his first Grammy nomination for the song ‘Amapiano’ with his signee Asake, making him the first Nigerian hip-hop artist to achieve this milestone.
Known for his energetic stage performance and chart-topping hits, a throwback video showing Olamide delivering lines in pure Yoruba with remarkable passion, leaving his fans in shock.
The Yoruba movie ‘Osun Funke’, was directed by his debut song ‘Eni Duro’ music video director DJ Tee and it was released in 2013.
In the video, the ‘Hello Habibi’ hitmaker was seen expressing his frustration at a proud lady called Osun Funke who walked out his studio. He used his song ‘Stupid Love’ to insult the lady.
