Nollywood actress Bukky Wright returned to the industry After taking a break,
In a recent visit on Rubbin’ Minds, the actress talked about her biggest disappointment and what she believes may be done better. During the performance, Ebuka questioned her:
“EBUKA: Coming back to the industry, what are you not happy with?” to which Bukky responded saying:
BUKKY WRIGHT: Professionality, for me. I’m sorry, but I don’t really feel it like we used to. At times, call time is 8 o’clock, and you see people coming in at 12, 11, and you’re wondering what’s going on. Well, they are superstars, maybe we are not. So I end up waiting for them because that’s the way I was trained.
I remember when we used to have all these training academies here and there. I’m not sure if we still have as many now, but during that time, you were trained on so many things. I can handle a production from beginning to end. I know my continuity. I know what costume to wear on set for a particular scene and what not to wear. I know what my makeup should look like for every scene I’m shooting, and I know when to get on set.
But I don’t know, I’ve been on a couple of sets since I got back, and it’s sad that you have to be waiting when call time says one thing, and you end up waiting for hours for the stars to come in.
“EBUKA: But you are the star. Well, is it a conversation you’ve had with any of them? I mean, like you said, you met it that way now, but you know what it used to be like. Is it a conversation you’ve had with any of these young people or young actors? Because there have been accusations—people call them social media actors. Some say they’re more celebrities than actors, that they’re chasing fame instead of actually chasing the craft. Is that what you’ve observed?”
BUKKY WRIGHT: Well, I would say that we all start from somewhere. It now depends on how you develop yourself. It depends on the passion you have for what you’re doing.
I’ve seen a lot of them that actually started from social media, but I see the zeal, I see the commitment to be better. And I still see some of them who feel like, okay, they’re up there, but I am not their mother, neither am I their boss, for me to say, No, that’s not the way it’s done.
But at the same time, I really appreciate those who are genuinely aspiring to be better than what they are. I appreciate the fact that they are making efforts because you see some of them come up to you, saying, Please, I would like to be in your movie. I would like to act with you.
Some of them even call for some of us to be in their skits and what have you. So, I really appreciate the fact that they are willing to learn and are aspiring to be better than what they are.
