Tems is speaking out on her feelings about being called ‘rude’ and how social media and people keep using her name to spread lies, as well as why she feels a huge responsibility to respond to the lies and clear them up instead of keeping quiet. Here’s what Tems said.
First, Tems talked about being called ‘rude’ after the pictures and videos of her attending the last year’s Oscars with her big white couture gown that seemed to block the people behind her trended for days after the event. Around that time, Tems took to Twitter to casually respond to the moment saying “Oops“, but even after that, some people like American reporter Stephen A. Smith still felt a way about it. Stephen A. Smith on his podcast said about Tems and the moment: “You know how rude you gotta be to roll up in the Oscars and sit down with that dress?”
Responding now to the moment and to being called ‘rude’ for it, Tems is saying to The Cut:
TEMS: It’s not like I did it on purpose. But the only thing I could do in that situation was pay attention and clap
Then, addressing another thing she got insulted for online, Tems addressed the “Me & U” music video teaser which she posted only to be met with comments saying she was alluding to water orishas like Oshun and Yemoja. At the time, Tems swiftly cleared up the rumor saying “Actually, it’s about Jesus Christ teaching me how to walk on water, to trust Him and not in human understanding” but then she got dragged further for giving that response.
Now, in her interview with The Cut, Tems is speaking about why exactly she had to respond to the moment, and explaining why she hates when people make up lies about her, saying:
TEMS: The reason I made it clear what I believe is because I felt like, when you get to a certain point of popularity, to a certain level of fame, people like to project onto you and create things based on imagination. Like, just a week before, I was apparently pregnant by a man that I’ve never spoken to or heard his voice directly. I’ve never spoken to Future. Not even on the phone. I’ve never met him. But, suddenly, I’m pregnant? That’s what social media does. It makes illusions feel real. It makes your imagination feel real. If you take those people too seriously, you will be compromised mentally. I just thought, This is zombie behavior.
