Popular Nigerian singer, Darlington Achakpo, better known as Speed Darlington, has reportedly been arraigned in court and granted bail.
Speed Darlington’s lawyer, Deji Adeyanju who made this known on Wednesday said that the court granted the singer’s bail application when the police finally arraigned him in court on Wednesday. The Federal High Court in Abuja granted him a N20 million bail.
Justice Ekerete Akpan gave the order in a ruling on the singer’s bail application moved by his lawyer, Marshall Abubakar, after he pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge bordering on alleged cybercrime.
He mandated that the surety, who must be a Level 10 civil servant, reside in Abuja and provide an affidavit of means.
The judge instructed Speed Darlington to surrender his international passport and directed both the surety and the defendant to submit two recent passport-sized photographs to the court registrar.
Subsequently, the judge ordered Speed Darlington to be remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre until his bail conditions are met.
Adeyanju wrote, “Police finally arraigns Speed Darlington in court. Bail application moved and granted. We are trying to perfect same.”
Speed Darlington was initially arrested in October 2024 over allegations of defamation and cyberstalking Burna Boy. The singer was apprehended in Lagos and transported to Abuja, where he was held by the IGP’s intelligence response team in the Guzape district of the city.
Following his release from police custody, he was re-arrested in November while performing at a show in Owerri, Imo State, only days after his return to the country.
This comes after popular socialite Pascal Okechkwu, better known as Cubana Chief Priest promised to help Speed Darlington Regain freedom from prison amidst his beef with singer Burna Boy.
