Nigerian singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has addressed the criticism surrounding his recent interview with The Big Homies House podcast, where he talked about the economic hardship in Nigeria.
The singer had suggested that foreigners reconsider relocating to Nigeria due to the country’s struggling economy. Davido, who revealed that he is a citizen of Atlanta US, cited issues such as poor leadership, a high exchange rate, and soaring oil prices as significant obstacles facing the country.
His remarks were met with criticism from some celebrities and some Nigerians, including Mr Igbokwe and Reno Omokri, a former Special Assistant to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Bashiru Ahmad, Patrick Doyle and lots more.
However, Davido took to his X handle to blast people attacking him over his comment. He tagged them as ‘mentally retarded’, stating that he and his other colleagues across the music industry are the ones that represent Nigeria and its interest in the foreign countries.
He wrote, “Yall mad We are the real ambassadors.”
He went ahead to talk about his change of accent during the interview at the American podcast. He wrote, “The way my accent be for that interview Dey sweet me 😍 very demure 😂.”
