#EndSARSMemorial is one of the trending conversations online. Today, October 20th, 2024, marks four years since Nigerians kicked off the #EndSARS movement, a development that led to the Lekki Massacre.

In a video making the rounds online today, Burna Boy during his recent performance at Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, United States of America, recalls the sad moment in the history of Nigerian and by extension composes a song for those who were killed.

Recall that the #EndSARS movement was a movement unleashed by Nigerians as aim to put an end to police brutality, ending bad governance, among others.

The movement took over the 36 states in Nigeria, however, it led to the Lekki Massacre on October 20th, 2020. On the night of 20 October 2020, at about 6:50 p.m., members of the Nigerian Army opened fire on unarmed End SARS protesters at the Lekki toll gate in Lagos State, Nigeria, leading to the death of many protesters.

In his performance while on stage, Burna Boy said; “Ladies and gentlemen, on the 20th October 2020, exactly four years ago, a lot of people were killed and this is for them.”

shaweel: Africa will remian subjugated as long as we remain disoriented and disillusioned that we have countries designed for our well being. In contrast what exist on Africa territories and minds are colonial orchestration designed for perpetual suppression ,subjugation for collective explicitation . The sysem was designed to funnel our enormous human and mineral resources to benefit the colonisers,. Over time , Africans started challenging the status qou especially after witnessing and participating in their conflicts tagged world wars. Then, they converted the colonial setup from direct control to proxy control, where t”he plantation is on autorun” not that colonisation was reversed; inguise of independence from the dependence they imposed on us, where a few the people raise to managing the colonial establishments and join the beneficiary of the expliotation of their peoples. Until 21st century Africans realize the hold on us hidden in plain sight , #undoberlinconference1885 and ##redefineafrica in our diverse country away from colonial definition of who we are , for true cohesion to act in unison nothing will change and we ill continue passing the mess designed and institutions in our minds and territories to successive generation as intended by the colonisers..

gudneus: After the innocent lives were lost police brutality didn’t stop I hope some day naija will change.
