Renowned Yoruba actor Kunle Afod has firmly denied allegations of sexual abuse within the Yoruba film industry. In a recent interview, he dismissed claims that actresses are coerced into having affairs to secure movie roles, urging those who have experienced such incidents to speak out publicly.
Speaking on Seun Oloketuyi TV’s official YouTube channel, Afod called on any actresses who have faced such situations to come forward and reveal the truth. He stressed that only through open disclosure can the public determine whether these allegations are valid or simply baseless rumors
Afod further explained that relationships between colleagues are common in any professional setting—whether among doctors, nurses, or bankers—and are ultimately a matter of personal choice. He emphasized that while romantic involvement in the workplace is a natural aspect of adult life, it should not be mistaken for coercion or manipulation aimed at advancing one’s career.
He also stressed that talent remains the most important factor in the movie industry. According to Afod, no actress can rely solely on personal relationships to succeed. Even if someone were to secure a role through an affair, he argued, it would be short-lived, as a lack of talent would eventually hinder further opportunities in the industry.
Afod also advised that actresses who choose not to compromise their values or engage in inappropriate behavior should consider taking control of their careers. He suggested that, rather than feeling sidelined or blaming others for a lack of opportunities, they could take the initiative to produce their own films and create platforms for themselves.
He reiterated his belief that talent should always come first and maintained that any allegations of coercion or abuse need to be backed by those who have personally experienced them. Until such claims are clearly proven, Afod remains confident that the industry is driven primarily by skill and merit.
In his remarks, “If an actress who isn’t talented chooses to have sex with an actor to get a movie role, she would be wasting her time because the actors won’t feature her in movies because she’s not talented. An actress who isn’t willing to have an affair with an actor for movie roles should go ahead and produce her own movies, it’s as simple as that.”
