Nigerian Afrobeats singer Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, has made headlines once again with a video documenting his humble beginning as a struggling musician to being a global superstar.
Asake, a rising star in Nigerian music, has won over millions with his catchy tunes and relatable lyrics both locally and internationally. But before his success, he faced challenges and embraced opportunities on his journey to achieve his dreams.
In a video detailing his Grass to Grass story, it appeared that the 29-year-old started his career as a drummer and struggling to make ends meet.
He later diverse into Nollywood movies as the clip showed him featuring in two films. His appearance in the video sparked reactions as he looked shabby and malnourished.
The video also showed him dancing and singing alone in a forest. In a sudden transition, Asake was spotted relaxing with prominent figures, including the Ooni of Ife, Ogunwusi Adeyeye.
The other segment of the video showed that life has improved for the singer as he was seen dressed in a multi-million Naira suit, looking so sharp and handsome.
It’s important to note that Asake’s career took off in 2022 after releasing the single “Mr. Money”, followed by a remix with Zlatan and Peruzzi. He also featured rapper Olamide in his hit song ‘Omo Ope’, which led to his signing with the YBNL music label.
On 8 September 2022, he released his debut studio album Mr. Money with the Vibe. The album included the hit singles Terminator, Peace Be Unto You and the Sungba remix featuring Burna Boy.
His blending of Afrobeat and Fuji made him special in the music industry and he was accepted globally with his back-to-back hit songs. In 2023, he joined the league of Nigeria’s top performers after he successfully shut down London’s iconic stage event, O2 arena with 20,000 capacity.
On Saturday, September 21st, Asake made history by shutting down O2 arena again and captivating his audiences with his infectious energy and melodious voice when he performed his hit songs mostly from his latest album, ‘Lungu Boy’.
