“I did not eat Laycon’s money, In fact…” – DJ Neptune Fires Back at Laycon

There is some light drama happening between musical collaborators DJ Neptune and rapper Laycon following their song together “Nobody (Icons Remix)”. Here’s everything you missed.

It all started when Laycon took to his X page to publicly call DJ Neptune out for his split on the song they did together called “Nobody (Icons Remix”. Laycon tweeted saying:

LAYCON: Abeg o…@deejayneptune how far my agreement and split for the “Nobody (Icons Remix)” song though. Is it not still ready?haba it’s been 4 years o 🤦🏾‍♂️

Following Laycon’s tweet, people started accusing DJ Neptune of stealing Laycon’s money.

Now, during a new interview with City105.1FM, DJ Neptune is addressing what really happened between he and Laycon saying:

DJ NEPTUNE: The funny thing is that while all of this was going on, my legal team and his legal team were talking. They’ve already been speaking. I mean, in all fairness, shoutout to Laycon. He had reached out to me about the split document, and I referred it to my legal team that okay, contact his people. It’s not my first time working with him. On my sophomore album, on the first track he was on there. I remember documentation was taken care of. So I don’t understand why there was an oversight with the “Icon Remix”.

And by the time I got to the root of the conversation, a percentage had been proposed to his team and they kicked back, and that conversation was just left there. So I didn’t know what was going on. Maybe he didn’t know what was going on on his own side and then he decided to do what he did.

And trust me, in less than twenty minutes while all that drama was going on, I told my legal team to reach out to his people and find out what the problem is. And the problem was still the percentage that was allocated to them. And mind you, I mean there are a couple of people on the record. We have to accommodate everyone. And right there and then, they signed what was proposed initially.

But I mean, I’m not the type to go online and banter. If you didn’t ask me this question, the right thing has been done. Life is short mehn, I don’t have time. I’ve been seeing people commenting “pay Laycon”. First and foremost, let’s establish that nobody has earned any money from that record. Because splits have not been allocated. And the revenues are piling up and mind you, there is an advance payment that needs to be recouped. So until that money is recouped by the distribution company, nobody is getting any payment.

So Neptune did not eat any Laycon’s money as it was put out online, point blank. That’s it.
