A middle-aged man, Mr. Sunday Obiozor Nwana from Abagana in Njikoka Local Government Area (LGA) of Anambra State, has reportedly set his wife on fire over accusations of infidelity.
According to a viral video, Nwaka allegedly doused his wife, Mrs. Blessing Chioma Nwaka, the mother of their six children, with fuel and set her ablaze after accusing her of engaging in extramarital affairs.
The incident left the victim scampering for safety while carrying a 3rd degree burn on her body. She was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday morning.
A resident of the area, who preferred anonymity, narrated, “The woman returned home on Tuesday evening, and her husband accused her of infidelity. During the confrontation, he poured petrol on her and set her ablaze. She was rushed to the hospital but unfortunately passed away this morning.”
Following the act, the suspect reportedly presented himself at the Abagana Divisional Police Station, confessing to the crime.
However, in another video where the Anambra state commissioner for women affairs spoke with Mr Nwana, the suspect revealed that he set his wife ablaze out of annoyance and did not know that she will die due to the injuries.
Shedding tears, he said, “I feel so bad, if not for the children, I would have killed myself too. I did not know she will die. I went to report myself to the police.”
