A new video making the rounds online captures Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, engaging in a heartfelt one-on-one conversation with a group of Nigerian youths. During the interaction, the governor opened up about lesser-known aspects of his past while offering them words of encouragement.
In the clip, Governor Sanwo-Olu, now worth several billions of naira, shared that he once faced similar struggles—admitting there was a time in his life when he desperately needed just “urgent 2k” to get by.
Reflecting on his journey, he emphasized that life unfolds in stages and urged the youths not to rush the process. He advised them to stay patient, noting that the person they are meant to become by age 40 doesn’t need to be forced at 18 or 22.
While encouraging them to enjoy their youth, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu pointed out that today’s generation has access to something he and his peers lacked growing up—technology. He noted that the presence of technology gives modern-day youths a better understanding of the world around them.
In his words; “I used to be young like you once—I’ve also been in that “urgent 2k” phase. Life comes in stages, so don’t stress. What you’re meant to be at 40 doesn’t have to happen at 18 or 22. Take your time.
Back then, I didn’t really understand how life worked. When I was younger and heard someone was 35, I used to think they were close to dying! Enjoy your youth. You have something we didn’t—technology. It gives you an edge and a wider view of the world. Just be patient with yourself.”
