The late veteran singer, journalist, and cultural icon, Onyeka Onwenu, affectionately known as the “Elegant Stallion,” has finally been laid to rest in a touching ceremony in Lagos.
Onyeka Onwenu, who passed away on July 30, 2024, at the age of 72, succumbed to injuries sustained after a fall during a function honoring Emzor Pharmaceuticals’ Managing Director, Dr. Stella Okoli.
The incident occurred at Reddington Hospital in Ikeja, where she later died. Onwenu’s funeral service took place at The Fountain of Life Church in Ilupeju, Lagos.
The somber ceremony was followed by a private burial at a mausoleum in Ikoyi. The event drew a significant turnout, with notable figures such as former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and Abia State Governor Alex Otti in attendance.
Onwenu’s death has left a void in the hearts of many, as she was not only a successful musician but also a respected broadcaster, actor, politician, and activist. She is survived by her two sons.
