Popular Nigerian rapper Odumodublvck has sparked an online uproar after appearing to shade Brazilian and Real Madrid football star Vinicius Jr over his loss to Spanish midfielder Rodri Cascante in the 2024 Ballon d’Or ranking.

The Ballon d’Or, held yesterday, October 28th, took an unexpected twist when Rodri, a Manchester City player, was announced as the winner instead of Vinicius Jr, who had been favored by fans and football lovers. This took over the social media space and it was shared on the award’s official X page.

Reacting to the post, Odumodublvck posted a video featuring him in the studio singing ‘mumu’, ‘ewu’ for Vinícius Júnior, after he also tweeted that he would continue to put in his best.

The rapper’s comment did not sit well with Vinicius Jr’s fans and general football enthusiasts, who took to social media to defend the Brazilian player. Many criticized Odumodublvck for “stepping out of his lane” as a musician and making unfavorable remarks about a celebrated athlete.

Some simply questioned his knowledge of football, claiming that Vinicius deserved a higher position than Rodri based on his performance and contributions to Real Madrid’s season. They berated Odumodu, saying that Vinicius’s football career is far better than his life.

As the backlash grew, Odumodublvck responded to critics with a series of posts defending his opinion, insisting he had the right to express his views on the ranking. He went ahead to photoshop Vinicius with a meme and many fans called him a ‘Racist’.
