Popular social media activist Vincent Martins Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman, has made a demand surrounding the immediate arrest of billionaire businessman Razak Okoya’s son, Raheem Okoya, over Naira mutilation.
This demand comes after a viral video showing Raheem Okoya abusing the Naira currency while a uniformed policeman looked on. In the video, the officer was seen holding the bundle of cash while Okoya was flexxing and spraying the money.
Although the police officer captured in the video has reportedly been arrested and detained for his role in the incident, Raheem Okoya’s involvement remains unaddressed by the authorities.
Following the video’s viral spread and widespread online criticism, Raheem Okoya apologized to Nigerians, claiming he was unaware of the consequences of his actions.
He wrote, “To the Nigerian people, my actions were not to cause any trouble or harm. My intentions were pure and naive. I ask for your forgiveness and support in this situation, as I had no intention to raise such an alarm. I wasn’t fully aware of the consequences of my action.”
In a video shared on the social media page, Verydarkman reacted to the viral clip as he questioned why Okoya is yet to face any legal consequence to the incident despite his role to the crime.
VeryDarkMan expressed concerns about the unequal enforcement of the law, emphasizing that Okoya’s social status or wealth should not exempt him from facing the same legal consequences as anyone else who breaks the law.
In his video, VeryDarkMan stressed that the law should apply equally to everyone, no matter their background. He noted that while the police officer in the incident was arrested, Raheem Okoya has not been held accountable despite his involvement.
He criticized Okoya’s apology, saying ignorance of the law is no excuse. VeryDarkMan also pointed out his own recent arrest for wearing a police uniform, despite apologizing, to highlight the unequal treatment based on status.
He argued that if other public figures like Bobrisky and Cubana Chief Priest were held accountable for similar offenses involving naira abuse, Raheem Okoya should face the same consequences. VeryDarkMan emphasized that there should be no special treatment for the wealthy, stating, ‘The law in Nigeria applies to everyone, whether rich or poor.’”
