A viral wedding video has sparked debates online after a bride’s father delivered unexpected speech to the groom during the ceremony.
The clip, which surfaced on social media, shows the father giving his daughter away but not without a statement that left many people talking.
In the trending video, the bride’s father, after handing his daughter over to the groom, stated that a wife is not obligated to cook for her husband.
He advised the groom not to believe in the cultural notion that they are the head of the family and should come home from work frowning and demanding food.
He questioned who told them that their wives must cook for them, emphasizing that no one is obligated to cook just to make their husbands happy or earn a place in Al-Jannah (Arabic meaning for paradise).
He added that his wife could testify to this, as there were times when he arrived home, and she told him there was no food, yet he accepted it without any issues.
Speaking to the groom, he said, “Don’t believe in what this our culture brings, that you are the head of the family, when you return from work, you frown your face and shouting, ‘Look where is my food.” Who told you she has to cook for you. Nobody is voluntary to cook for you just because she want to make you happy and enter Al-jannah and she goes extra mile, Walahi, my wife can testify to this, at times when I enter my house and she says there is no food, all is good.”
